How To Clean Windows Without Streaks

So you want spotlessly clean windows? Well, you’ve come to the right place!

Clean windows invite more light into your home and help you feel more connected to nature. However, figuring out how to clean your windows properly while avoiding streaks and scratching can be difficult. Here are a few pointers on how to clean windows like a pro without spending your money

6.  STEPS TO CLEANING WINDOWS WITHOUT STREAKING

1. Prep Your Window Space

Before cleaning your windows, make sure the area around them is clear of any ornamental items or furniture that could obstruct the cleaning process. In the event of a spill, make sure to put down a sheet or drop cloth to keep your carpet, walls, and flooring from becoming wet and causing damage.

Tip: Cleaning windows on a hot, bright day is not a good idea since everything dries faster and the window streaks. The best time to clean would be on a cloudy day.

1. Window Cleaning Solutions

When it comes to washing your windows, it’s better to stick to simple solutions. Avoid using ammonia or alcohol-based glass cleaners. They may appear to provide a more thorough clean, but they can leave streaks and even a thin film that attracts dust and moisture. Instead, fill a bucket halfway with warm water and a drop or two of dishwashing liquid.

2. Time To Soak The Windows

Using a sponge, wet your window with the solution from your bucket. To avoid streaking, you’ll want to accomplish this as rapidly as possible. As you work, make sure to scrub down the corners, creases, and crevices before washing the window. Then, using a squeegee or cloth, remove the solution and wipe it dry with a clean towel. Add a little vinegar to the cleaner if the windows are stained or soiled. Vinegar will cut away grease and filth if you’ve got a lot of buildups. Although specialists may use a blade to remove hard particles, never scrape off stuck-on materials with a razor or any other form of a razor, no matter how stubborn they are. Using a sharp object can leave lasting scratches on your windows, making them more susceptible to breakage in the future.

3. Use A Squeegee!

Wipe down the squeegee with a soft cloth or clean rag every couple of strokes to remove the excess. Move the squeegee on each glass from left to right, then top to bottom. Wipe down the squeegee after a single big stroke on a large glass; wipe it dry after every couple of strokes on smaller windows (with a much smaller squeegee). Cleaning single-pane windows are simple. Move the squeegee in a backwards “S” pattern from the top left to the bottom right.

4. Follow Up With A Dry Cloth

To get rid of any streaks after squeegeeing and make your windows shine, use a dry cloth or newspaper as this is the best method to clean windows without streaking. When rubbing the solution, use a soft, lint-free wipe. Although a microfiber cloth is preferred, a soft and clean paper towel would suffice. To avoid streaking, rub in several directions. If you still have streaks after cleaning your windows, rinse with clear water to help remove any remaining cleaning solution.

Tip: Wipe one side of the windows dry in a vertical motion and the other side in a horizontal direction. If streaks appear, you’ll know which side they’re on.

5. Dry And Polish

Now it’s time to dry the window frame and polish the glass. To avoid erosion or paint removal, use a rag to dry the window frame and windowsill. For a crystal-clear, lint-free finish, wipe one of these materials over the glass.

CALLING IN THE PROS

Window cleaning may call for professional assistance, depending on the number and style of windows, whether there are storm windows and screens to contend with, how much free time you have, and whether you require ladders or special equipment to reach up to two or three stories. Hiring professionals to clean windows you can’t reach that need a tall ladder is something we recommend because it can save you money on ladders, squeegees, towels, and cleansers.

IN CONCLUSION…

Even the most beautiful view can be ruined by streaks, smudges, and cloudy film on your windows. Having clean, streak-free windows looks and feels amazing. Clean the rest of the window to ensure that it not only looks fantastic but also allows you to enjoy the finest possible view. It’s all part of proper window care and upkeep. If you’re not sure about your cleaning abilities, you can always hire us at Glassmate to take care of your cleaning and maintenance needs.
